A view of the bowl below one of the American Fork Twin Peaks from the "Path to Paradise" trail. (I couldn't zoom out far enough to get the whole thing in this shot!)

The craggy lower portion of what I believe is Mount Superior from Snowbird Center.
Little Cottonwood Canyon
Mar 13, 2003
–
I believe this feature is Thunder Ridge, but don't quote me on that. In any case, this is typical terrain you'll find in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Took this photo on the way to Snowbird.
Mountains Across the Street
Mar 12, 2003
–
We stayed in a house that was right on the edge of the Wasatch. A trail to the top of Lone Peak (I believe) started somewhere around the houses near the center of the photo.
The Canyons

On our way back to Salt Lake City from Park City, I snapped this photo of The Canyons.

John Paul Express Quad
Mar 11, 2003

View up the liftline of the John Paul Express Quad from Snowbasin's base area. This lift takes skiers to the base of the Mount Allen Tram, which took racers to the top of the Olympic downhill course in 2002.
Snowbasin Resort Base Area
Mar 11, 2003
–
Snowbasin Resort's revamped base area. As you can see, the place is nearly empty. The temperatures at the base were near 50, and the valley reached 75 degrees!

Devil's Castle at Alta Ski Area

The huge craggy peak in the center of this photo is Devil's Castle (10,920 feet), which stands above Albion Basin at Alta Ski Area. I took this photo from the Albion base area parking lot.
Snowbird Terrain
Mar 9, 2003
–
This is a photo of the same terrain feature in the previous photo, only this one is taken after we made it down safely. Once again, the picture doesn't quite do it justice!
Nasty Snowbird Terrain
Mar 9, 2003
–
I took this photo on my way down one of the more scary skiing predicaments into which I've gotten myself. The hardest part was trying to slide under that downed tree without losing your edge. This picture really doesn't do it justice. (Read more about this in the "A Little Too Far Off-Trail" article.)
Salt Lake Valley from Hidden Peak
Mar 9, 2003
–
The Salt Lake Valley from the top of Snowbird's Hidden Peak. Snowbird's Thunder Bowl is in the foreground, and the Northern rampart of Little Cottonwood Canyon blocks what would be a view of the Great Salt Lake. The Oquirrh Mountain range rises above the far (west) side of the valley.

View of the American Fork Twin Peaks from Hidden Peak with the "Road to Provo" trail (the first trail we skied) following the ridge from left to right atop Little Cloud Bowl.

The last time I visited Snowbird in 1993, Mineral Basin was out-of-bounds backcountry.
First View of the Wasatch
Mar 9, 2003
–
Since Tom and I arrived in Utah at 11pm, we were greeted only by silhouettes of the mountains surrounding the Salt Lake valley. I took this photo as soon as I woke up on March 9, 2003.
