Black Pool
June 15, 2008 — Black Pool in West Thumb Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park. Black Pool is now beautifully clear and colorful, but that wasn't the case until the water temperature rose in 1991. The higher temperature water killed off the microorganisms that previously made the thermal pool appear black.
